This is very strange, I downloaded the new source for 2.6.9r8, I compiled it myself, for the first time. It was fun but I think I got everything right, except for sound but that doesn't matter. I emerged nvidia-kernel just fine, and after it told me I coudln't have the rivirra (can't spell sorry) drivers and that I needed MMTR or something like that, support and I did what it told me to do, everything world. The kernel compiled, the nvidia kernel compiled and told me to update the /etc/modals.autoload.d/kernel 2.6 and add nvidia, and I did this. I edited grub, and booted into my fresh kernel. The modual wouldn't load on boot time, however X windows still ran, I thinkg because in my xorg.conf I have the driver as nv, not nvidia. Can someone help me? Is this a common error... any help would be welcome, thanks!
