Hi All:
I am having trouble running the latest version of Media Player Classic on my Win ME system. It informs me when trying to open a DVD that I do not have the proper codec(s) installed for listed pins (MPEG DVD decoder & Nero DVD output). When I click the link to get the codec it says not available on the site where I downloaded Media Player Classic. Has anyone had a similiar problem? Where do I get the codec...I was under the impression that I just install Media Player Classic & would be ready to watch DVD's. Thank you!

Most of the way through downloading the i586 LiveCD, I return to my FTP client to autoresume, and the Gentoo subdirectories on ibiblio have disappeared! There is nothing under /pub/linux/distributions/gentoo, whether I access via FTP or HTTP.

What's going on?!

hey. i just got DSL like a couple of weeks ago and have started to download high quality divx movies. THe resolution is like 720x480. i dont want to burn them to a vcd because that takes too long. i just want to put the divx file on a cd so i can watch them on my computer. the problem is that most of the high quality movies out there are like 710-730mb. which basically is just a little too much to burn onto a 700mb cd. is there any quick way to get rid of the extra size without re-encoding or cutting a part out? i dont want to take the time to convert or anything like that. does anybody know the fastest way to do this???

Hi All

Was wondering if anyone can help me with this problem, been downloading the latest series of friends, which i have then been converting with TMPGENC.

However i now want to compress these files back down to the size they were when i downloaded them, most of them being around 90MB.

I have been trying to use VirtualDub, but the seem to not beable to get them any smaller.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks, Steve

Hi, I have the same problem and still couldn't resolve it. Even worse, my gentoo aborted the installation of kde because of the following: (Here is the error msg)
----------------------------------
Continued dowload failed on this file, which conflits with '-c'.
Refusing to truncate existing file '/usr/portage/distfiles/gtk+-2.6-smoothscroll-r5.patch'.
----------------------------------

I read the replies of this thread, so I also tried "emerge --usepkgonly kde", it says "there is no packages available to satisfy "kde".

I even copied all the packages from cdrom into /usr/portage/packages and set PKGDIR in /etc/make.conf to point to it, why it still downloading?

Thanks a lot!

Hi, I have a Sony Vaio desktop (from last fall) and it has a Pioneer DVR-104 DVD-RW drive. I used it mostly to watch my DVD's (since I have an 17 inch flat panel LCD screen). Anyways, lately whenever I watch DVDs theres always a scratchy distortion noise in the background. I assume it's because I use "Hardware Accleration" when I watch it on PowerDVD. But when I turn it off, the scratchy distortion is still there. I figured it was a hardware problem instead of having to download codecs to solve it, cuz whenever I play Mp3's or video thats already in my computer, there is no scratchy distortion noise. Also, whenever I popped in a music CD in the DVR-104, the scratchy noise exist there as well. Can someone help me?

Also Note that I have an ATI Radeo 9000 Pro 128 mb graphic card. Also, the scratchy noise hasn't always been there.

OK, I cant seem to open an mpg in OK, I cant seem to open an mpg in TMPGEnc, and I think I know why but not sure. IN environmental settings, the VFAPI plug in tab, I dont have an MPEG 2 Decoder plug in listed. I downloaded one and installed it, but it still wont show up....

When I try to open the MPG file that I captured using Videostudio, I get an error box saying Interconnect=0, when I click OK, another eror box saying it cannot open or is unsupported.

I'm only interested in making dvd movies downloaded from the net. My question is, should i download Divx version of a movie and encode it or download the svcd version and encode it? Basically, which of these sources have better quality? Obviously, svcd files are much bigger but if their quality is better, i wouldn't mind...
