I downloaded the SVCD sample from this site, burnt it and stuck it in my DVD player. Quality was great and even the menus and stuff worked fine. Then I tried to make my own and so far they've all sucked! There is this constant flickering of the image which would be enough to give you an epileptic fit after a while. I thought the problem was to do with interlacing but I tried all the possible settings there and nothing has helped. I'm using TMPGenc 2.0 to encode the file and burning with Nero 5.5.
Can Anyone help?????????
Hello all
Recently been using ffmpegx to convert lots of different videos so I can watch them on my PS3. All is working fine - 99.9% of everything I throw at ffmpegx converts without issue but last night I ran into a problem. I downloaded a couple of HD (1080i) clips to try out full HD on my PS3 and although they converted fine with ffmpegx only the sound actually plays on the PS3 - the screen itself stays blank.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try? I've been able to play 1080i clips downloaded from PSN no problem.
For info, the two clips are as follows:
Clip #1: .ts extension - VLC shows stream 0 as 'mpgv' and stream 1 as 'a52'
Clip #2: .mov extension - QuickTime shows Sound Track as AAC and Video Track as H.264
I converted both to PS3 using a preset provided by major (I think) on this forum, just with the 'Use QuickTime' option enabled
Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Would love to see these clips in full on my 37" plasma!
Quick update:
On a whim I simply added .mpg extensions to the two files. Clip #2 (the .MOV) wouldn't play on the PS3 but amazingly the other clip did, only without sound. I tried converting clip 1 to DivX as the PS3 can now play certain DivX files thanks to the 2.10 update but ffmpeg's converted file had no sound with it. What am I doing wrong?
hello all. first post here. i'm trying to create an svcd from a .rm file (300 kbps, 336 MB). i'm using EO Video. i read the guide and tried to convert to uncompressed .avi, divx, and .mpeg. all three attempts failed. converting to uncompressed got up to the end and then i got a message that the file was corrupt. converting to divx resulted in good video but the audio was very choppy and a couple minutes out of sync. i read that it could be beneficial to convert to .avi and then .mpeg and then to svcd to save time. my question is this: does anyone one have tips for what settings i should be using? i'm sure this is where i'm messing up. i'm shooting for best quality and conversion time is not a problem. i'll list the .rm specs and my computer specs below. thanks.

All right the term newbie can certainly be applied to myself.... Here's a question I have and any serious sensible help would be appreciated... I have a system set up to copy my own dvd's... I had to do some reading.... (a whole lot of reading...) and I'm confused about a couple of steps .... I am not trying to do the SVCd thing I'm am trying to do the DVD-Dvd thing... I have gotten all the way to the step of trying to burn the files back to the DVD burner (yes I have a (Pioneer's DVR-A03) 60 gig HD an 850 amd.... I build my own systems... (yes its a sick hobby)... I have dsl... I have downloaded a movie I wanted to watch and save on a regular dvd..... As well as go through the steps to strip and convert my own disks...... The file format I have converted from a regular DVD ended up being saved in a mpeg2 format.... It seems the freeware available didn't like the A03.... I have in the past couple of days had some good results with nero... Yes I had to find a guide to show me/guide me along... But all I seem to have been able to do is burn 3 dvd disks and they play beautifully on the computer... I can't get either of my stand alone units to play them... I know its just something I'm missing....
But I have another (probably more serious question) if after watching the movies on the computer widows media viewer (7.1) I think... I dunno windows 2000 pro seemed to save them into a windows clip movie now..... so .... I'm stuck and not sure what to do .... do I need to convert them back with tpengc program... is there something I am screwing up when i try to burn them with the latest version of nero??? Should I stick to the software for watching DVD movies on the compter that came with the DVD burner??? and avoid the files being changed.....
Any helpful/tactful suggestion would be appreciated.... I've done so much reading and looking I am confused and a little bewildered ... but I enjoy this kind of thing... I have 2 other regular CDRW burners and use them all the time... Its just all the muliple steps that are a little confusing til you have somone show you the basics...
Thanks again for any and all help....

hello all! i'm here because i'm an hardcore windows server user, and am basically fed up... so i'm making the switch. my friend dave told me all about gentoo and how great it is... so i'm giving it the college try. anyway, i've followed the instructions to a tee, and my server is this:
dual amd athlon mp procs
1 gb of ecc registered mem
adaptec 29160 scsi card
adaptec 2940 scsi card
es1370 audio
realtek 10/100 nic
it finds all my hardware just fine, no problem... i downloaded the full live cd so i would be able to do smp. i can do the install fine up until i do..
scripts/bootstrap.sh i issue the command... it does its thing and hangs up about 10 mins into it. i edited the make.conf and did the march=athlon-mp instead of xp... i also added some use flags. any ideas on how i can get my bootstrap to compile? thanks!

I've downloaded the contents of a home made DVD. It currently starts abruptly and ends abruptly. I would like it to start with a fade from black lasting approx 2 seconds and I would like the audio to fade in at the same time. I would like the picture to fade to black and the audio to fade out at the end.
Can anyone tell me how to do this step by step with Womble "MPEG Video Wizard DVD" or any other applications. Thanks
Before I formatted my hard drive it was possible to convert WMV to MPEG. I downloaded another TMPGenc and now I get a grey screen. Thing is I did nothing to the other TMPGEnc to get it encode WMV. Any ideas?
Cheers

I have installed the esstix fonts for kformula and I really need esstixeight. Unfortunately this is one of several that kformula can't use for some reason. Infact kcharselect shows Helvetica or something when looking at esstix8. I downloaded with Konqueror and then tried with wget. I followed the instructions from the help file. I tried manually installing by copying and fc-cache -f 'ing.
I saw something during googling about a problem with fontconfig and those fonts. I am going nuts because I am trying to make things look right in my lab reports, but I would rather not use MS Office every time just to put brackets around a fraction! Does anybody have these fonts working in the current gentoo set up? What have I got to do to get these things in? Btw, I also tried logging in as root and running through the same deal to no avail.
This is what has been happening to me:
I have on my Desktop a link icon to my Download folder in my home directory, but Gnome/Nautilus treats it as if the folder was under the Desktop directory...
If I am downloadining something... nother appears on it's own if I leave the folder window open from the Desktop link....
But if I leave the window open that I opend from its true location... new files appear and grow...
I wish I knew how to fix this behavior... It doesn't even matter if you tell your apps to point to the Desktop Folder...
I'm running Gnome 2.6... but is this just the behavior of fam alone?
